Washtenaw County Public Health
The Washtenaw County Public Health department is contracting with Afia to continue to provide strategic visioning and system design for their public health Encompass electronic health record.
Success Story
The founders of Afia helped create the Washtenaw County Public Health Department Electronic Health Record, Encompass. The Public Health department had many separate systems that were disconnected and duplicative. The first task was to create a single electronic record with one master patient index that consolidated all services and all clients that Public Health served. A root cause analysis was done with all programs within the Public Health department to create a system that met everyone’s needs.
These following systems were consulted to create a unified system:
- Maternal Infant Health Program
- WIC
- Children’s Special Health Care
- Immunizations
- STD/HIV
- Hearing and vision
- Emergency Response
- Worksite Wellness
Through the use of Encompass, the Public Health department has been able to serve clients more efficiently and provide better support for staff. Mobile technology consisting of laptops with high-speed cell phone cards are used by Public Health staff to serve clients in the community with real time access to the client’s health status.
Afia is has signed a contract with Washtenaw County Public Health to provide ongoing support and system design to take them to the next level. Afia will also be working with Public Health to create a community wide Personal Health Record to serve all people in Washtenaw county.
